The Pitons give St Lucia a horizon no other Caribbean island can offer, and the best properties are built to frame it. It is the most dramatic-looking island in the region and it photographs exactly as well as it looks, which is not true of everywhere.
It is really two destinations. The north is flatter, busier and closer to the airport; the south, around Soufrière, is where the views actually are and where the transfer is long and winding. Booking the wrong half for what you wanted is the most common way a St Lucia trip disappoints.
Highlights
- The Pitons, and resorts built to frame them
- Sulphur Springs and the volcanic hot baths
- North and south are very different — the transfer south is long
- Rainforest and hiking beyond the beach
Best time to go: December–April is the dry season and the highest-demand window.
